Interview with Timothy Semanik and Ann Doemland
Musical Director and Conductor Timothy Semanik and Board President Ann Doemland of the Northwest Symphony Orchestra give us the history of the orchestra (founded in 1959), the musical vision of the group, and the type of musicians who thrive in this setting. They tell us how to draw out fine music from players who do not make their primary living from performing music, and how the emotional content of a piece can produce great music even from those who approach music as an avocation rather than a profession.
Public Perspective, with host Kevin McDermott, serves up lively conversation each week with
intriguing guests from a wide range of backgrounds. The half-hour show covers politics,
the economy, business, and social issues with well known public voices and with unsung heroes.
Our guests have included such notables as: the President of the Cook County Board, the Editorial
Page Editor of the Chicago Tribune, the Mayor of Amman, Jordan, and a Nobel Prize nominee as well
as social activists, elected officials, and everyday citizens who have something to say, but whom
you won't see in the mainstream media.
Kevin and his staff draw on a wealth of varied experience in business and industry, entertainment,
religion, the arts, and civic organizations to ask the right questions and focus in on the most
interesting answers. The Public Perspective team brings you shows full of vibrant, entertaining
conversation that will make you think.
